On large stages, he or she might manage all aspects of the production process behind-the-scenes. In smaller theatres, they will be limited to just managing elements such as sound and lighting and assisting actors with costume changes and props. Regardless of the size of the theatrical production, a stage manager is responsible for ensuring that all actors are aware of their cues and times on stage (monitoring lighting for this purpose), aiding performers in their blocking on stage for scene memorization purposes (unblocking actors from 'setting' positions), calling back on cue, or calling offstage cues.
