The Curator, also called a Gallery Director, is typically in charge of the overall operation of a museum, gallery, or another venue for visual culture. S/he maintains and oversees a collection of works by both historical and contemporary artists. Duties include but are not limited to presenting a set number of exhibitions per year; overseeing the preparation and installation of exhibitions; operating and overseeing the continuing education programs utilizing both instructors from within and outside the organization, public outreach efforts, fundraising activities, including planned giving, legacies, corporate giving, individual giving, planning development events for board members and cultivating long-term relationships with them.
