From basic 2 axis jobs all the way up to 5 axis simultaneous machining, the programmer is responsible for milling complex parts, programming secondary operations (such as countersinking holes or adding a thread.) They work with both 2D and 3D modeling software to determine tolerances, cutting depths, and speeds to make sure everything comes together as it should.
