An orderly also referred to as a medical assistant, is an individual who assists healthcare professionals in providing medical care. This position works in hospitals, assisted living facilities, and various types of healthcare facilities. They are responsible for cleaning, restocking, and maintaining a clean environment where medical procedures occur. They clean up bodily fluids, empty bedpans, collect dirty linens, handle waste, disinfect equipment and floors, and do many other services required to keep the facility sanitary and free of hazardous conditions. They do this all in addition to their general cleaning duties, such as wiping tables down or dusting a light fixture.
